Paul A. Fanelli
Paul A. Fanelli, 95, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, following a brief illness.
Paul was born in Utica on May 4, 1926 to Salvatore and Mary (Murro) Fanelli. On May 7, 1955 he married Lucy R. Gizzi at St. John the Baptist Church, a blessed union of 66 years.
Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the European Theatre and was wounded in action in the fall of 1944. He was a barber for his entire life and started cutting hair in 1937 at the age of 11 and continued for 84 years. He was also employed with the Rome City School District. Paul was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church.
Paul is survived by his loving family, his beloved wife, Lucy; two sons, Salvatore and Anne Fanelli of Lee Center and Paul and Heather Fanelli of Marlboro, MA; brother-in-law, Geno and Maureen Gizzi of Rome; five grandchildren, Ryan Fanelli of Norfolk VA, Mark Fanelli of Lee Center, Cameron, Nick, and Megan Fanelli of Marlboro, MA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Angeline Rosato of Holiday, FL; brother, Anthony Fanelli of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and a brother-in-law, Anthony Gizzi of Arlington, VA.
Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick Street for a Mass of Christian Burial. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
