Mekaila Lyne Kotary

1995-2024

Mekaila Lyne Kotary, 29, of Rome, NY, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2024. She was born on June 22, 1995. She is the daughter of Barry Kotary (Darlene Walters) of Rome and Tammy Kotary (Phil Chesebro) of Rome.

She graduated from Oriskany High School in 2013. Mekaila found peace in nature and her spirituality, foraging for wild herbs and making holistic remedies. She always displayed her nurturing spirit by caring for animals, often nursing them back to health. A talented artist, she found much enjoyment in crafting and DIY projects. Music helped heal her when nothing else could. She cherished spending time creating memories with her son, family, loved ones, and her dog, Willow.

Mekaila had a light inside her that touched everyone who crossed her path. Words can’t begin to describe her because she was someone who gave you a special feeling. Her ambition in life was to help heal others. Although she is not physically here, the most beautiful part, her soul, will forever remain.

Mekaila is survived by her father Barry; her mother Tammy; her son Carson Jay; her older sister BréAnna and brother-in-law Danny and nephew Landon; her twin sister Meriah; her girlfriend Kayla; her grandmother Helena; her aunt Donna and uncle Jeff; her aunt Karen; her uncle Tom; her aunt Tina; her aunt Brenda and uncle Corey; and extended family, including cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her grandfather Donald.

At the request of the family, there will be a private memorial service held for immediate family.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street.

Mekaila had a heart of gold and she took care of others and was very good to the people around her. She lit up the room and her smile would make others smile. Mekaila was a good cook she always made me feed when we stayed together for a period of time. She just all around was an amazing person. She brought so much joy into my life and others lives also. I would do anything just to see her again and hear her voice. I send my prayers to her loved ones.

Aunt Tammy, BréAnna, Meriah and family,

Your Forestport family is here for you always - please let us know if you guys would like to get together soon or if we can do anything to help you through this. I know it's been some time since we've all seen each other but we all miss and love you guys very much. One of my earliest memories involves the girls and me ripping the Simba wallpaper off of my bedroom wall during a family party - luckily for us we had loving mothers that let us off easily! Needless to say, you all have a special place in my heart and Mekaila will be missed very dearly.

I have no doubt…
