Lucy Kousouros
It is with profound sadness, we, the sons and family of Lucy Kousouros announce her passing on Sunday, April 7, 2024. Lucy passed on in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love and care of her family.
Lucy was born Lucia Marcello; a first generation Italian-American daughter of John (Giovanni) and Rose (Rosina Sparace) Marcello on January 13, 1935 in Rome. A beautiful, strong, independent woman, Lucy, though fondly proud of her Italian heritage, sought the opportunities that American freedom offered. As a young, divorced, mother of two young boys, Lucy Marcello Kozak’s adventurous spirit sought a life free of the immigrant, old-world strictures which confined so many of her generation. Lucy taught her sons, Edward and Richard, integrity and to respect where they came from, but also to seek and explore; and for this, we, her sons, are forever grateful. Our mother, Lucy, truly was strong, independent, brave (at times fierce) and adventurous, especially during a time when women were expected to stay-put, be dutiful, obedient housewives, mothers and daughters. As free spirited as our mother Lucy was, she settled and cared for her own mother with love and patience. Selfless and humble, Lucy maintained a strong love, hope and devotion to God.
As the Lord leads us to Blessed Destinations, Lucy married the love of her life, Meltiades “ Greek” Kousouros on May 17, 2003; a truly happy, loving and blessed union until “Greek’s” passing on August 30, 2022, breaking the heart of “Greek’s” beloved “Lulu”. Our hope is that they are reunited in Glory together forever.
Those left to mourn the loss of our beloved Lucy are her sons, Edward Kozak and Richard Kozak; grandsons, Derek, Travis, Dallas, and great-granddaughter Selene; sister Carolyn Fecteau and her family of Massachusetts, the Scarchilli family, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, a special niece, Tina, special nephew David Gamboni, and sister-in-law Mary Lichas of Florida. Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband Meltiades “Greek” Kousouros, her parents, a sister, Teresa Gamboni and a brother Dominick.
Lucy’s funeral Liturgy with Greek Orthodox Trisagion was presided over by Father Steve Scartia and Deacon Wally of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 10am at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St. Lucy was laid to rest with her beloved “Greek” in Rome Cemetery.
