Laurence K. Mehl
Laurence K. Mehl, 68, of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 29, 2023 in his home. He was born in Rome on October 4, 1954 to the late Kenneth and Marjorie Sherwood Mehl.
Larry was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and prior to his injury worked at Varflex Corporation in Rome, NY. Larry spent his free time fishing and camping at Black Lake, deer hunting, and he took pride in building his own home. After an ATV accident in 1999 that left him paralyzed, Larry remained positive and overcame the many challenges of learning to live with a new set of limitations. He developed a passion for growing his own fruits and vegetables, canning and fermenting many foods. He enjoyed attending the Clinton Farmer’s Market on a weekly basis and preparing a home-cooked meal from his newly purchased goods. Anytime you were in his presence, you could bet he would send you home with a “good movie” recommendation and a joke.
Larry is survived by his three children Melissa (Tim) Ronchi, Amanda (Alan) VanScooter, and Travis (Brienna) Mehl; seven grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Avery and Abbey Ronchi, Natalie, Weston and Emily VanScooter, and Ryker and Ellie Mehl. He is also survived by his ex-wife Crystal Cavanaugh Mehl, and a very special cousin, Ann Boulerice.
At Larry’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, in honor of his love for his late dog Gracie, please volunteer to walk a dog or consider a donation to the Humane Society of Rome, 6247 Lamphear Rd., Rome.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo Street.
