Josephine (Jo) V. Castro
Josephine (Jo) V. Castro, 85, of Rome, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2021.
She was born on September 15, 1935 in Rome, the daughter of William and Rosemary Vaccaro.
Josephine married John Castro on May 18, 1963 at St. Johns the Baptist Church in Rome. He predeceased her on September 15, 2017. Josephine was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1953. She worked for Griffiss Air Force Base at the hospital for 35 years until her retirement. She loved her family, cooking, walking and various arts and crafts.
A lifelong resident of Rome, upon their retirement in 1995, bought a winter home in Punta Gorda, FL, and traveled extensively with her family throughout the US and Europe.
She is survived by her three sons; John R. Castro and his wife Van, of Queens, NY, William V. Castro of Pittsfield, MA and Kevin Castro and his wife Amy of Fayetteville NY; five grandchildren, Madeline, Anna, Jon Thomas, Kevin Michael and Megan Castro; three sisters, Marilyn Rossi of San Diego, CA, Jacqueline DiMarco and husband Louis of Rome, Geraldine Ripley and husband Mark of Rome; a brother Frank Vaccaro and wife Pamela of Huntington Beach, CA; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tito and MaryAnn Castro, Punta Gorda, FL; and many loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by one sister and two brothers-in-law, Sandra Mataviesko and husband Dennis, and Richard Rossi. She has recently been cared for by the capable and caring staff at Brookdale Senior Living, Fayetteville, NY.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St, Rome. A funeral service will be arranged for later this year.
