Geraldine M. Mortis
Geraldine (Gerri) M. Mortis, 79, of Rome, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 in Rome Memorial Hospital. It is with deepest sorrow that we say goodbye to Gerri, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cousin and cherished friend. She led an uncommonly rich and fulfilling life devoted to her family, friends and community.
She was born on October 26, 1941 in Rome the daughter of Alexander (Whitey) and Linda George Lagrotteria. On June 8, 1963 she married Robert C. Mortis, a blessed union of 57 years.
Gerri was a graduate of the RFA Class of 1959, and was very active in the planning of several class reunions. After many years in the banking business, she retired in 2002 as a Branch Manager of M&T Bank. She leant her time and talents to a number of volunteer organizations including the Rome Twigs, Dollars for Scholars, Rotary International, the Delta Omega Sorority (past president), and serving on the boards of the Salvation Army and the Rome Art and Community Center. Gerri was an avid reader who loved puzzles, arts and crafts, and playing cards with friends and family (especially Pitch).
She is survived by her beloved family, her husband Robert; children Lynda (Adrienne), Lori (Julio) and Bob (Brooke); cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Nicholas, Zachary, Owen and Skyler.
We’d like to give many thanks and much love to everyone who has reached out to our family during these past few days. The overwhelming outpouring of love and support has been a great source of strength, and is a testament to how much Gerri was loved by all.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, January 15th at 11am in St. John the Baptist Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Masks and social distancing will be necessary. Private interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
