Albert Scerra

Albert Scerra, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Rome Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Albert was born on January 30, 1948 to Alfred and Frances Scerra in Rome NY.

   Albert was a selfless and kind hearted man that touched the lives of so many. He was an active member of the Toccolana Club for as long as anyone can remember, and poured his heart into making sure the courts and club were cared for. Consistent with his dedication to the club, Albert was known for putting everyone else first and creating joy for all around him.

    Albert graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1966 and worked at numerous jobs in his youth, finally retiring from the City of Rome Water Department after 20 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed being a Papa to his four grandsons; Calum, Ben, Carter, and Jaxson and a devoted husband to his wife of 17 years, Doreen.

   For those that knew Al, they know he was one of the few good men left. Taken too early, his loss will be felt by the entire community, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all he touched.

    Albert is survived by his wife, Doreen Scerra; his son Nicholas and wife Jerilyn Scerra ; his stepdaughter Kristi and husband Paul Mowry; brother Ronnie and wife Debbie Scerra; brother Ricky Scerra; grandchildren Calum and Ben Scerra, Carter and Jaxson Mowry; and nephews Mike, Matt, Niko, and Richard Scerra.

   Funeral services will be celebrated at 12pm on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St.,  for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio as celebrant. Calling hours will be from 10am-12pm at the church prior to the mass.

    Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St.
